We all have anxiety from time to time. Sudden death, job loss, sickness, unexpected expenses, or trouble involving our children can turn our thoughts in a negative direction. However, if we are not careful, we can create an idol from our anxiety.
In order to prevent strongholds and idols from forming, be sure to answer anxiety with trust in God. Go to the Word and remind yourself:
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Psalm 112:7
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
God loves nothing more than when we tell Him we trust Him in the middle of whatever storm we are going through. He understands that it is not easy, but He honors our sacrifice of praise and draws us closer to Him. If you have created an idol of anxiety and worry, you can break free by repenting and placing your trust in God.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
