Our youth group has been studying the concept of Coram Deo. Coram Deo, a Latin phrase, is translated as “in the presence of God”. It’s the idea that all life is lived in the presence of, under the authority of, and to the honor and glory of God. As our youth pastor explains, before the face of God. Nothing is hidden from Him.
“For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.” Luke 8:17
How many of us feel as if we can hide things from God? For some crazy reason, we think if no one else saw us, then God didn’t see us either. We can very easily get into the bad habit of thinking and acting like we are hidden from the eye of God.
“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
“The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men.” Psalm 33:13
“Woe to those who seek deep to hide their counsel far from the Lord, And their works are in the dark; They say, “Who sees us?” and, “Who knows us?” Isaiah 29:15
This also applies to the things we think and say and do in our mind. God knows it all. We cannot just be accountable in our actions and words. We must also be accountable in our thoughts. Thankfully, God is for us and has provided. He has provided help, grace, and mercy.
O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it. Where can I go from Your Spirit?Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. Psalm 139:1-10
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
